Course Description
This course provides students with the skills and knowledge required to conduct civil construction skid steer loader operations (sometimes referred to by the popular brand name “bobcat”) in civil construction. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.
Contents
- Plan work, identify hazards and apply safety controls.
- Check PPE, services, servicing status and emergency procedures.
- Complete prestart checks and report faults.
- Select, fit, test and safely use attachments.
- Maintain safe distances from powerlines and services.
- Safely load, carry, place, spread and level materials.
Park, shut down, secure equipment and clean up. - Assessment: Two occasions, each using a different material and activity.
- Use and remove at least two approved attachments across both occasions.

Delivery & Assesment
Training and assessment is conducted on site and is structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the organisation and students and includes classroom theory and practical on-job training. Assessment is competency based and will include a mixture of classroom-based exercises and practical demonstration of skills.

Pathways

Materials & Equipment
Students will be provided with all written and physical materials required to complete the assessment. Students must wear long trousers, a long sleave top and steel-capped boots.
CITB Subsidy
This course is eligible for funding under the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) scheme, which supports individuals and organisations looking to enhance their skills. Eligibility is assessed on an individual basis, and each participant must meet the requirements outlined in CITB’s Eligibility Policy, available on their website.
