    Course Description
    This unit will provide applicants with the skills, knowledge and information to safely operate a forklift truck and to enable them to undertake assessment with a SafeWork SA registered Assessors for Licence to Perform High Risk Work. The unit is based on the requirements of the National Standards for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.

    Successful students will learn to operate a forklift truck, to plan the work, conduct routine checks on a forklift truck, shift loads in a safe manner, and safely shut down and secure equipment after completing operations.

    • identifying workplace hazards, control measures and appropriate standards,
    • selecting plant appropriate to the load and workplace conditions
    • Identifying relevant communication methods and procedures.
    • conducting pre-operational checks in accordance with procedures,
    • locate, identify and check all controls,
    • damage and defects are reported
    • test forklift functions and safety devices
    • record, report and action defects and damage
    • assess load weight to ensure compliance,
    • safely shift load in accordance with procedures,
    • ensure the stability of load,
    • respond to any hazards and/or unplanned or unsafe work practices
    • park& secure truck to avoid hazards/unauthorised access
    • shut down and conduct post-operational checks
    • record, report and action defects and damage
    There are no pre-requisites for this unit; however, the minimum age for licensing is 18 years.

    To obtain a licence, applicants must be able to provide 100 points of identification to Service SA or Australia Post along with the WHS Regulatory Authority Invoice and Notice of Satisfactory Assessment issued through your Assessor.

    Training and assessment is conducted on site and is structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the organisation and students and includes classroom theory and practical on-job training. Assessment is competency based and will include a mixture of classroom-based exercises and practical demonstration of skills.

    Successful assessment outcomes from this training will result in a Statement of Attainment; that may be used for recognition in a relevant qualification.

    Students will be provided with all written and physical materials required to complete the assessment. Students must wear long trousers, a long sleave top and steel-capped boots.

    This course is eligible for funding under the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) scheme, which supports individuals and organisations looking to enhance their skills. Eligibility is assessed on an individual basis, and each participant must meet the requirements outlined in CITB’s Eligibility Policy, available on their website.
    Applicants must provide evidence of their eligibility before enrolling. For group bookings, funding may apply to each eligible participant, potentially reducing the overall cost. Please note that eligibility criteria may change at CITB’s discretion. For more details, please refer to the CITB policy directly.
