TLILIC0008 – Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity)
Course Description
This unit will provide applicants with the skills, knowledge and information to safely operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity), and to enable them to undertake assessment with a SafeWork SA registered Assessors for a licence to perform High Risk Work. Units are based on the requirements of the National Standards for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.

- Identifying workplace hazards, controls, appropriate standards, and communication methods
- Determine weight of load and check crane is appropriate to the load and workplace conditions
- Conducting pre-operational checks according to procedures and reporting damage or defects
- Locate, identify and check all signage, controls, service log book and safety devices
- Ground suitability is checked and hazard prevention/control measures are applied
- Crane is driven to the work area and positioned for work application according to procedures
- Configuration for task is determined and boom/jib &counterweight configuration data is input
- Communications equipment is tested for functionality
- Lifts are determined within the capacity of the crane
- Boom/jib and hoist block is positioned over load following directions from associated personnel, test lift is carried out according to procedures
- Loads are transferred according to procedures &standards using appropriate communication signals
- Crane is operated according to procedures movement is monitored constantly and unplanned and/or unsafe situations are responded to in line with procedures
- Suitability of planned route is checked for the crane according to procedures
- Crane is configured to mobile load according to procedures Crane boom/jib and equipment is stowed and secured, where appropriate, according to procedures and appropriate standard, motion locks and brakes are applied.
- Crane is shut down according to procedures and post-operational checks are carried out.
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this unit; however, the minimum age for licensing is 18 years.
To obtain a licence, applicants must be able to provide 100 points of identification to Service SA or Australia Post along with the WHS Regulatory Authority Invoice and Notice of Satisfactory Assessment issued through your Assessor.
Delivery & Assesment
Training and assessment is conducted on site and is structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the organisation and students and includes classroom theory and practical on-job training. Assessment is competency based and will include a mixture of classroom-based exercises and practical demonstration of skills.

Pathways

Materials & Equipment
Students will be provided with all written and physical materials required to complete the assessment. Students must wear long trousers, a long sleave top and steel-capped boots.
