MEM08014B – Apply protective coatings (basic)

Course Description

This unit covers spraying pre-treatments and protective coatings not limited to brush, roller and conventional spray equipment, at a basic level. It covers single and two-pack coatings not containing isocyanates. Work is undertaken autonomously or as part of a team environment using predetermined standards of safety, quality and operating procedures.

Specific health and safety matters include interpretation of MSDS warnings, materials sensitivity, hazardous goods, breathable air and introduction of compressed air into the body. Specific understanding is required of given supplier information and product details.

Entry Requirements

Students must have completed the following units of competency to qualify for enrolment;

  • MEM13003B – Work safely with industrial chemicals and materials.

Delivery & Assesment

Training and assessment is conducted on site and is structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the organisation and students and includes classroom theory and practical on-job training. Assessment is competency based and will include a mixture of classroom-based exercises and practical demonstration of skills.

Pathways

Materials & Equipment

Students will be provided with all written and physical materials required to complete the assessment. Students must wear long trousers, a long sleave top and steel-capped boots.
